Laboratory of Control Systems (LCS)

LABORATORY IN BRIEF
The Laboratory of Control Systems (LCS) is a basic laboratory of the IEC in the field of automatic control theory. The LCS was officially established at the IEC in 1986. The LCS has three main scientific directions:

  • development of the general root-locus theory of automatic control systems;
  • computer-aided automatic control systems design;
  • programs packages and automatic design of modular-sized programs.

STAFF
Head of the LCS - Prof., D.Sc. Gennady Rimsky. Throughout the period of its activity, the LCS had about 20 researchers. At present the LCS senior scientific personnel include 2 scientists with Ph.D. degree S.Chebakov and I.Shatohin.

RESEARCH FIELDS
In the framework of the main scientific directions the following are the areas of interest of the LCS:

  • dynamics systems with perturbed coefficients;
  • absolute stability of non-linear control systems;
  • control management;
  • CAD system software;
  • multicriterial optimization methods.

Applications where these tasks have been and are used:

  • CAD/CAM;
  • apply programs packages.

PROJECTS
The LCS took part at the design of CAD automatic control systems software. The projects devoted to the tasks have been performed for industrial enterprises and universities of the former USSR. The LCS took part in these projects, creating mathematical methods and software for CAD systems.

Software created by the LCS people have been installed and used at the following companies:

  • the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (Minsk);
  • the Belarusian State Polytechnic Academy (Minsk);
  • the Research Institute of Manufacturing Organization and Technology (Russia, Moscow).

Now the LCS takes part in the projects on investigation of interval systems and artificial intelligence systems by semantic polygon methods.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY

The LCS people visited research laboratories of Agriculture Engineering Academy, Bydgoshch, Poland (1988); New University, Lisbon, Portugal (1995-96) and participated in the following international conferences: Paris, France (ETFA'95 Conference, 1995); Brno, Czech (SYS'95, 1995).

TRAINING

The LCS scientists actively participate in a teaching process at the graduate and post-graduate levels.

The LCS has strong links with some departments of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR) and the Minsk High Technical School (MHTS). The LCS scientists work part-time as Professor (G.Rimskii) at the BSUIR and Associate Professors (I.Shatohin) at the MHTS. They give a lecture courses "Computer systems and networks" (at the BSUIR) and "Automatic machine tools and FMS" (at the MHTS), seminars, and laboratory courses. Each year about five students from BSUIR work at the LCS to write their Diploma theses.

Since 1986 some of the LCS scientists wrote thesis and got two Ph.D. degrees (S.Chebakov, I.Shatohin). Now, the LCS has own postgraduate student and two scientific workers working towards the Ph.D. degree.
